On Wednesday, Najam Sethi of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced that Bismah Maroof, the captain of the Pakistan women’s cricket team, has stepped down from her position.
According to Sethi’s tweet, Bismah resigned in order to pave the way for a younger team member. Sethi stated that he has accepted her resignation.
Najam Sethi also announced that although Bismah Maroof has resigned from her position as captain, she will continue to play for Pakistan as a regular team member and contribute to her country’s success.
Under Bismah’s leadership, Pakistan’s women’s cricket team won 27 out of 62 T20Is and lost 32 matches. Additionally, Pakistan won 16 out of 34 ODIs during her captaincy.
Bismah Maroof is an all-rounder who represents Pakistan in cricket, batting left-handed and bowling right-arm leg break. In June 2022, she became the highest run-scorer for the Pakistan women’s cricket team in both ODI and T20I formats.
Throughout her 17-year-long career, Bismah has scored 3110 runs in 124 ODIs with an average of 30.2. She has also scored 2658 runs in 132 T20I games with an average of 27.1.
