While the majority of individuals are forced to purchase bottled water due to the poor quality of ground and piped water, many companies sell extremely contaminated mineral water.
Samples of 181 mineral water brands were collected from marketplaces in 22 cities, including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Gujranwala, Quetta, Peshawar, and Karachi, according to the PCRWR report.
In this context, the Pakistan Council of Research in Water Resources (PCRWR) has identified 16 mineral water brands in the country to be “unsafe” for human consumption in a report.
After testing all of the samples against 24 water quality parameters, the World Health Organization (WHO), the International Bottled Water Association (IBWA), and the Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority determined that 16 brands were chemically unsafe and did not meet the WHO, IBWA, or Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority’s standards (PSQCA).
