Another moment of pride for Pakistan as a local calligrapher has won the Islamic calligraphy exhibition competition and been awarded the prestigious US presidential award.
Syed Zameer Shah, who comes from Haripur, Pakistan, competed against well-known calligraphers from 19 different Islamic countries, showcasing his artwork. Shah emerged as the winner of the competition and was awarded a cash prize of $250. He participated in the competition through the Islamic Art Society of Pakistan.
Shah has won in other competitions for his artwork showcased in Islamic exhibitions across various countries, including Pakistan, in the past. Therefore, this is not his first win in a calligraphy competition.
The calligrapher was pleased to discover that he had achieved first place in the online calligraphy exhibition in the United States.
“My black-and-white color artwork won the first position in the competition which motivated me,” the calligrapher said to media outlets.
“I feel extremely happy after winning the virtual competition,” Shah exclaimed.
“I have reached this position due to the sheer hard work of my late teacher Ellahi Bakhsh Muti, who was a presidential award-winning calligrapher, and taught me this artwork,” he added.
Shah is an expert in calligraphy, having pursued it as a hobby for the past 25 years. He believes that creating an art piece requires a considerable amount of time. Additionally, he is passionate about teaching, and being a school teacher has enabled him to improve his skills while also sharing his knowledge with future generations.
