According to a report by CNN Turk, a recent earthquake hit the border area of Turkey and Syria, resulting in the deaths of six individuals. This occurred two weeks after a previous and more significant earthquake caused over 47,000 deaths and inflicted damage on numerous homes.
The earthquake that occurred on Monday had a magnitude of 6.4 and was located near the city of Antakya in southern Turkey. It was felt in neighboring countries such as Syria, Egypt, and Lebanon. The quake’s epicenter was 10 km (6.2 miles) deep, as reported by the European Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC).
There were 294 people injured in the earthquake on Monday evening, 18 of them seriously, according to Turkish Health Minister Fahrettin Koca.
Patients were evacuated from some health facilities that had remained in operation after the massive tremors two weeks ago, as cracks had emerged in the buildings, Koca said on Twitter.
Total U.S. humanitarian assistance to support the earthquake response in Turkey and Syria has reached $185 million, the U.S. State Department said.
