Newborn was reportedly saved from the debris caused by an earthquake in Syria

A newborn baby girl was saved from the wreckage of her home in northern Syria after a powerful earthquake hit the area.

The baby’s mother is believed to have passed away during childbirth. The cousin of the baby found her while searching through the rubble, hearing a voice and discovered the baby with the umbilical cord still attached.

Despite the difficult conditions, such as freezing weather, blocked roads and damaged infrastructure, rescue operations are continuing to pull survivors from the rubble in both Syria and Turkey where the quake took place.

The rescued baby girl is receiving medical care at a hospital for children in Afrin, where a pediatrician stated that she is in stable condition but arrived with bruises, cuts, and hypothermia.

The baby is believed to be the only survivor from her family, who lived in a five-story apartment building that was destroyed by the earthquake.

The disaster has caused the death of at least 2,500 people in Syria, adding to the already existing trauma and difficulty from the ten-year civil war.

Hospitals in the country are overwhelmed with patients seeking help, some of which have been damaged by the earthquake. There is a growing concern about the spread of illnesses, particularly among children.
