On Saturday, Mohammad Rizwan Irfan, president of the Karachi Electronics Market Dealers Association, announced revised SOPs for mobile phone sales and purchases in the city.

In order to sell his/her mobile phone to a shopkeeper, the seller must be a Karachi resident.

Additionally, in order to sell the phone, sellers should get their mobile phones cleared from Citizens-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC).

The association head said that in case a mobile phone is blocked it will be handed over to the police. The policy will be the same for new and used phones.

“Customers should also show CNIC to get their mobile phones unlocked and to update software,” he said, adding that the policy has already been implemented.

Irfan said: “The new SOPs have been devised in consultation with the police and the CPLC in order to control the rising cases of mobile theft.”

He mentioned that 100-120 million mobile phones have been seized since 2016, adding that these mobile phones were returned to the citizens with the help of law enforcement agencies.
