Reels, Meta’s TikTok-clone, is launching on Facebook in more than 150 countries, using the service’s iOS and Android apps.
In a move to expand its fastest growing content format. Reels makes it easier for creators to earn money and use creation tools to make their videos.
Meta announced Reels for Instagram in 2020 and Facebook in 2021 in response to TikTok, which is owned by Chinese tech giant ByteDance.
Facebook Reels will also receive more monetization adverts – aka more ads. In addition, the company will roll out two new formats: semi-transparent banner ads appearing “below a Facebook Reel” and static stickers “that can be placed anywhere within the video.” Additionally, it will offer automatic ad placements in “nearly all countries where in-stream ads are available” and pay fans directly with paid Stars (which allows fans to directly donate to their favorite creators).
“Reels is already our fastest growing content format by far, and today we’re making it available to everyone on Facebook globally,” Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in a Facebook post on Tuesday.
The network promised it would add Reels to Stories and the news feed as well as other locations soon.
