KARACHI: A funeral service was held Monday at the Polo Ground of Malir Cantonment in memory of former president General (retd) Pervez Musharraf. He will be buried in a military graveyard later today.
After several delays, the former army chief’s mortal remains were brought to Karachi on Monday night by a special plane from the UAE.
At 79 years old, he passed away at Sonapur, Dubai, after being given Ghusl (ritual bathing and wrapping before burial).
In addition to the dead soldier, the widow and children of the ex-army chief were flown in from the Gulf state.
In the old terminal at the airport, the plane was parked upon arrival. After removing the body from the old terminal under tight security, the aggrieved family was transported to their destination.
The bereaved family formally approached Pakistan’s consulate in Dubai on Sunday, seeking permission to shift the body.
Background
In addition, the former president’s mother is buried in Dubai, while his father is buried in Karachi.
General Musharraf, who was being treated for amyloidosis at the American Hospital in Dubai for a long time, passed away on Sunday.
Other politicians, including Shehbaz Sharif and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz supremo Nawaz Sharif, have prayed for the ex-president’s forgiveness – who has not returned to the country since 2016.
