Apple announced a new budget iPhone with 5G access

Apple announced a new desktop computer and a powerful Mac chip on Tuesday during its first product event of the year. But the highlight of the show was a new budget iPhone that can access 5G networks.

With the new iPhone SE, Apple’s third version of the model since it launched in 2017, the company has incorporated the company’s faster A15 Bionic chip, the same in-house processor that powers the iPhone 13 line. In addition to the upgraded camera and battery, it has a 4.7-inch display with the same resolution.

But it’s the added 5G capability that could be the ultimate draw for customers, by giving them access to the faster wireless network at a more affordable price point. It will cost $429 slightly more than the previous one, which began at $399.

“Obviously, some of the phones that Apple has launched have been really expensive, for the mostly mid- to high-end consumer, so now you get an affordable phone with 5G,” Samik Chatterjee, an analyst for J.P. Morgan, said in an interview.

Like iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13, iPhone SE is designed to minimize its impact on the environment. iPhone SE is made with recycled materials, including 100 percent recycled rare earth elements
