During the ViacomCBS Investors Event the streaming platform shared the exciting news that Nickelodeon and Nickelodeon Animation will be producing the upcoming SpongeBob films.
It was announced on February 15 at the event that it is bringing three all-new movies to the service based on characters in the SpongeBob SquarePants universe. They also announced that a fourth, as-yet-untitled SpongeBob film is currently being developed by Nickelodeon Animation for release on the big screen.
In addition to SpongeBob film, the studio announced three spin-off movies coming to Paramount+ that will focus on other Bikini Bottom characters. The first of these planned spin-off films is scheduled to be released in 2023.
Talking about the exciting new offerings, Brian Robbins, chief content officer at Paramount Plus, said, “As we’ve known with Nickelodeon’s long-standing success, the kids and family audience is incredibly loyal. Also added, “So, we’re doubling down on giving them what they want by expanding the universes of the characters they love the best.”
